Boko Haram members are not Muslims
The Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has disowned members of the Boko Haram sect, saying that unless they stop killings innocent Nigerians, they would not be recognised as Muslims.
In a statement made available to journalists yesterday in Onitsha to mark the beginning of this year’s Ramadan fast, NSCIA Vice- President, Alhaji Dauda Onuorah Ajagu, asked the Boko Haram members to obey the Federal Government’s plea to shun their violent activities.
Ajagu reminded them that the Holy Koran and the Book of Prophet Mohammed condemned violence in any form, adding that even God asked Muslims in many verses of Holy Koran to love one another and their Christian brothers since the nearest person to a Moslem is a Christian.
He said: “What we want in Nigeria is peace, unity and love for one another so that Nigeria can move forward. Let everybody think what he can do for Nigeria and not what Nigeria can do for him.
“We urge Nigerians to unite for the progress of the country. With unity, we will maintain our dignity this time around. If we obey the law of the land and that of Allah, Nigeria will not only be the giant of Africa, but the giant of the black race”.
Ajagu, however, commended the Federal Government and the Nigerian Embassy in China for erecting an ultra-modern embassy building at Beijing in China. President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned the embassy yesterday.
He also prayed for God’s abundant blessings on the Nigerian Ambassador to China, the Nigerian Defense Attaché and the entire embassy’s workers.
