3 die as fire razes house in Cross River

Three persons lost their lives as fire gutted a house in Ohong Community, Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The occurrence ended up throwing the whole community into grief and mourning.
The incident, which occurred at about 7:30 pm, reportedly took the lives of three siblings who were said to be two boys and a girl.
Community Mirror learnt that the fire was caused by a generator which the father of the deceased, Mr. John Ugem just put on after the PHCN tripped off public electricity supply.
John and his wife, including one of their wards, were sitting outside when the fire erupted.
It was gathered that the power generating set had been on for about 30 minutes, before it malfunctioned.
An eyewitness, Mr. Sunday Ugbe said there was a sudden spark which ignited the generator and engulfed the frontage of the building, blocking the three siblings indoors.
Sympathizers attempted to force the windows and door open to rescue the kids, but were repelled by the huge fire, smoke and heat emanating from the fire.
The fire was said to have defied all efforts by neighbours to put it out, as there were reserved containers of petrol in the house. John, who out of desperation broke into the house through one of the back windows, got trapped by the inferno, but was later rescued.
As at press time, he was still recuperating at the Obudu Sacred Heart Hospital.
