A Tale of Two African Countries (Ghana and South Africa) Part 1


 

A Tale of two African countries is an invention of The Innovation Apartment Africa tagged “Priceless Africa” it started in Accra at the Ovation Red Carol on the 14th of December 2013 where it witnessed the Celebrated Ghanaian poet, Professor Kofi Awoonor who lost his life in the Kenyan Mall attacks, and Nelson Mandela were honored at the Ovation Carol & Awards held in Accra on Saturday Night. The CEO of Ovation International Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu described the late professor as a true son of Africa, adding that he read several books from the literary icon. Afetsi Awoonor, son of Professor Awoonor received an Ovation Red Carol Award on behalf of the family and a cheque of ghc10, ooo was also presented to endow the fund for Kofi Awooner Poetry Competition organized by the School of performing arts, University of Ghana, Legon. The presentation was made by former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings. To remember his contributions to the arts in Africa, there was a dance performance by the Noyam Dance Company and a poetry performance by Chief Munin. The South Africa tale continued from the 27th -31st December, 2013; the retreat objective was to learn basic principles, best practices of community service, financial literacy and collaboration for social entrepreneurship. The Trip availed us a quick opportunity to experience the quiet city of midrand, to pay homage to the late madiba who died at that time and partnership opportunities with JCI South Africa. The retreat also afforded the convener the opportunity to also engage leading social entrepreneurs and high profile personalities such as the 2010 South Africa JCI National President, Ali Fodolo and the Ogun State Special Adviser on Environment, Barr. Bimbo Lanre Balogun, they were presented Vintage Copies of Ovation International Magazine. The South African Trip was facilitated by Holloway Travels and the Ghana Trip was sponsored by Ovation
