Having blocked the city main roads, the activists have called a day of protests in 50 cities across the hosting country.

Thus, the protests were carried out in many other cities, including Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia (the capital).

They urged the authorities to spend money on social projects and improvement of living conditions Brazilians rather than on the World Cup.

The demonstrators who gathered near the city Arena Corinthians stadium, where the opening Mundial's match is to be held, said they needed housing and not stadiums built in compliance with FIFA standards.

Explaining their position, the head of Homeless Workers Movement Guilherme Boulos said:

"We don’t want to destroy or damage the stadium. What we want is more rights for workers to have access to housing and to show the effects the Cup has brought to the poor."

Meanwhile Nigerians are looking forward to the start of the 2014 World Cup, in which the whole country will be supporting the Super Eagles. The head coach, Stephen Keshi, has recently released the highly awaited 30-man provisional squad.
