The Michael Jackson statue outside Fulham’s Craven Cottage home has been removed today.
Upon
its unveiling behind the Hammersmith Stand in 2011, it was greeted by
split opinion among fans who argued the significance of the pop icons
statue at the club’s ground, despite Al Fayed’s admittance that he was a
fan of the club and a friend.
The
statue will be returned to the club’s former owner Mohammed Al Fayed,
who told Fulham supporters they could “go to hell” if they didn’t like
it two years back.

But
thewest London club’s new owner Shahid Khan who said he is acting on
behalf of the supporters had said: “We’ve had enough,” and declared his
intention to remove the tribute to the American superstar who died in
2009.
Jackson
visited Craven Cottage in 1999 to attend the match against Wigan
Athletic as Al Fayed’s guest- his only link to the club.

On
Wednesday, Fulham wrote on their Instagram page: “Today we say goodbye
to Michael. Thanks for the memories.” The post was accompanied with a
video of the statue being removed from their ground.
